Gamemill Entertainment has announced that Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny has been released for Nintendo Switch 2 today, offering a significant upgrade on the Switch 1 version.
Released at the end of September for PC and consoles, the Switch 1 edition did suffer from a few technical issues, as reported in our review. However, this Switch 2 version seemingly corrects most of the problems. We said: “Worse than all of this though is the performance on the Switch. Without a dedicated Switch 2 version you’ll be greeted with stuttering cutscenes and an underwhelming framerate, which is a shame if you only have Nintendo consoles to play the game on”, back on the Switch 1.
The publisher explains, then: “The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny features increased resolution to 1240p and 60 FPS, as well as improved lighting, particle effects, anti-aliasing and more!”
The best part is that this update is going to be free for existing owners. GameMill says: “Digital and physical owners of the original Nintendo Switch version of Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny will soon be able to access the same enhancements when playing on Nintendo Switch 2 with a free performance update for the game.” If you don’t own the game, it’s also available as a one-time purchase for £39.99 digitally, or as a Game Key Card if you prefer that.
In our original review, we said: “There’s a lot to love about Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny for young cartoon loving gamers, but it’s not without issues. Melee classes are much less fun to play as for example, because the up close combat just feels a bit clunky and they generally get less exciting skills.
Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is a nice entry level action RPG, which is especially fun if you play as a ranged attacker. It’s got more depth than I expected from a game aimed at kids, and as long as you avoid playing it on the Switch or Switch 2 (or there’s an update post launch) you’ll enjoy looting with SpongeBob and company.”
Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is out now for PC, PS5, Xbox, Switch, and Switch 2.
