Precision platformer TetherGeist is coming to Nintendo Switch

Challenging, but supportive.
TetherGeist

We’re fans of platform games here at LLC, and a very exciting looking new precision platformer has been announced for Nintendo Switch, called TetherGeist. It’s also coming to PC via Steam, and it really does look fantastic.

The team behind the title says you’ll need to “master tight controls with Astral Projection in this wholesome precision platformer to overcome challenges and discover that curiosity and perseverance are rewarded”. You play as Mae along with her axolotl spirit called Bao and, well, just look at the trailer and tell me you don’t think this looks fantastic.

Serious Celeste vibes, or even the upcoming MetroidVania Lucid, right? The developer explains: “TetherGeist centers on responsive platforming driven by Mae’s Astral Projection, a spiritual ability that lets her extend herself beyond her body and solve movement challenges in unexpected ways.”

That said, if you’re worried it’ll be just that little bit too challenging, it sounds like the team has you covered there, too. “Frequent checkpoints and carefully tuned controls make failure a meaningful part of learning, encouraging experimentation, exploration, and thoughtful problem-solving at every turn”, the press release explains.

Here’s the features for the title:

  • A Platformer About Growth, Not Combat: Every challenge in TetherGeist is overcome through timing, momentum, and careful movement in this combat-free adventure.
  • Astral Projection as Expressive Mastery: Mae uses Bao to project her spirit, navigating the world in inventive ways. Each chapter adds new movement mechanics to explore with.
  • Challenging but Supportive Design: Frequent checkpoints and instant retries keep the experience forgiving, encouraging experimentation and progress.
  • Representation Matters: The game addresses disability, social dynamics, and spirituality. Mae’s motor disability shapes her journey, Foyal wrestles with faith, and NPCs reflect diverse cultures, identities, and classes. Many were designed with Kickstarter backers.
  • Characters That Resonate: The heart of TetherGeist is its people. Players meet NPCs with rich personalities, diverse backgrounds, and meaningful struggles. Relationships, interactions, and choices bring depth to the world, making each encounter memorable.

I really love the idea of offering a challenging title with lots of support via the design, that also talks about representation, and this one is firmly on our radar now.
