Publisher Wales Interactive has announced Into the Slimy Mines, a tower defense roguelike game “with a card twist” from Scottish developer Ant Workshop. It’s coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch in May this year.

If that developer name, and indeed the partnership with Wales Interactive, rings a bell, that’s because the duo was also behind the phenomenal dungeon crawler, Into the Restless Ruins.

For those that didn’t play that one, or haven’t heard of it, we scored it a 9/10, with Lyle saying: “Into the Restless Ruins blends dungeon creation and dungeon crawling to create an intensely compelling game. It also manages to avoid the frustration Roguelikes often bring with its clever curse system, and by breaking the game into manageable chunks. Very few games keep me so invested that I replay with added difficulty, but I refused to put Into the Restless Ruins down and it’s likely you’ll have the same wonderful issue.”

As you can see from the newly released trailer, the developer has a type, but thanks to Into the Restless Ruins, we are here for this one.

Wales Interactive explains: “Into the Slimy Mines is a roguelike tower defence. Working for Ironkilt Intergalactic Industries is not easy, especially when you crash your mining vessel and lose all of your crew on a slime infested moon!

Rescue your crew and return your ore filled cargo before the Boss hands over the Stout Hammer to a more competent dwarf. Buy cards and booster packs, expand your tunnels, find crazy combos and squish those frackin’ slimes. Dig, build defend – and get off this B&*@!n Moon!”

Into the Slimy Mines

Ant Workshop’s MD Tony Gowland said: “Into the Slimy Mines is a fresh new style of roguelike tower defense where players don’t just have to worry about the hordes of creeps, but also need to plan and shape the routes they can take, while their turrets are slap bang in the line of fire. We can’t wait to get the demo in to players’ hands and see how they get on rescuing the dwarven crew of the Stout Hammer from the drill-crazed Slimeoids!”

Into the Slimy Mines is coming to PC via Steam, PS5, Xbox, and Switch in May. There will be a Steam Next Fest demo this month (February).
