The Drifter Switch and Switch 2 release date confirmed

Mouse controls and 4K 120fps on Switch 2.

Developer Powerhoof has announced the release date for acclaimed adventure game The Drifter on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and it’s pretty soon.

So soon, in fact, that it’s merely a few weeks away as The Drifter will launch on Nintendo Switch on June 22nd.

Check out the new trailer showing off the release date, below:

In our review of The Drifter (on PC), Chris White said: “The pixel art is usually grimy and dark, yet it’s often gorgeous. This world Mick finds himself is dangerous, but there’s beauty in the most unexpected places. I love how Powerhoof has made use of every pixel, bringing to life a multitude of places that are often unexplored by the average person. The voice acting is superb. Having strong actors make the story believable, even when it gets a bit silly at times. It’s an excellent point-and-click adventure that continually makes things interesting and I love it for that.

We’re so used to fast gameplay and brutal combat with Soulslike titles dominating the market. However, games like The Drifter are what provided the backbone of yesteryear’s market. If you want to experience a thrilling story with an interesting bunch of characters, this is for you. The item-based puzzles continue to be exciting, and the story is always finding new ways to keep you engaged. With great actors, gorgeous pixel art, and a strong protagonist, The Drifter is something that shouldn’t be slept on.”

The Drifter Review

Mick Carter’s been drifting a while now – moving from job to job, never staying one place long. Jumping a box-car to his old home town, he witnesses a violent murder, is pursued by hi-tech soldiers, thrown in a reservoir and drowned.

Just before his consciousness is ripped away, it is thrust back into his body. Alive again, seconds before his death. Mick is framed for the killing he witnessed, tormented by his own past, and haunted by the feeling that something followed him back from the other side…

This new version on Switch 2 will support Joy-Con 2 mouse sensor functionality, and will also be able to hit 4K and 120fps, so it sounds like a seriously good port.

The Drifter is out now for PC, and hits Switch and Switch 2 on June 22nd.
