Being a good guy in Pywel isn’t easy. The temptation to get a little light-fingered is everywhere in Crimson Desert. Shopkeepers have limited wares and people leave their doors unlocked a lot. I mean, it’s like they want to be robbed. But just how exactly do you go about it? Read on, because it’s not quite as straightforward as you’d expect.
Warning: may contain spoilers.
First of all, you can’t just walk into a place and employ a five-finger discount willy-nilly. Kliff is a nice lad, see, and he’s got a reputation to take care of. If you want to go pilfering, you’ll first need to wear a mask.

These can be found on dead bandits everywhere, and in fact the game will give you one fairly early. It has its own slot on the equipment wheel (in the Weapons tab, for some reason) and you’ll need to wear it before the game will even allow you to click the “steal” prompt.
Now, whether in a mask or not, you’ll still be in trouble if you steal something right in front of people, so you’ll need to be aware of your surroundings. Even if there’s no one there, stealing will trigger a big red circle around Kliff. Stay out of sight for about 20 seconds or get out of the circle without being seen and you’re off Scott-free. Get caught, and it’s a fine, jail, and lingering criminal record for you. Don’t worry though, you can sell your ill gotten gains wherever you like.
