Hey there, partner. Nice to see another farmer in Zephyr Town, looks like you’re new to the area, right? Looking for a Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar farming guide? You’re in the right place.
From one farmer to another, it can be overwhelming when you’re starting out. You’ve not got much money, your tools aren’t in great shape and you’re tasked with saving the town by making sure the bazaar is a success, which it won’t be if you’re not there every week with your latest batch of goodies.
If you’re after some tips on getting the most from your homestead, read on.
Farming Basics
Without wishing to teach you to suck eggs, there are a few things you should be doing each morning as the sun rises.
- Till the land (if you’ve got seeds to plant)
- Plant your seeds
- Water them and anything else currently growing
- Spread fertiliser on everything
- Harvest any crops that are fully grown.
I also recommend running around your farm and using your sickle to chop down any weeds and flowers/herbs, then making a trip to the red windmill. Start processing all the weeds into fertiliser, followed by flowers into perfumes or dyes, depending on what you want to sell/what a questgiver has asked for.
This is an easy routine to follow to maximise the crops and forageables on your farm each day.
How to upgrade your farm tools
One of the first things to do is upgrade your basic farm tools. This is simple, just head to the red windmill and select the copper upgrades from the list there. I’d recommend starting with the watering can as it lets you hold more water, followed by the hoe, the sickle and the hatchet. Each time you upgrade a piece of equipment you can do more with the “ultra” ability (double jump and then use your equipment) – you’ll very quickly be able to water/till/slice/chop 9 squares at once, at the cost of a chunk of stamina. Upgrade further to the copper+ variant or higher and you’ll unlock the ability to do even more squares at once, and your watering can will hold even more water.
How to upgrade your farm space
You’ll very quickly run out of room in your little field, especially if you plant a tree, as these take up 9 squares at once and have comparatively low yield for a lot of the year.
We’ve done a full guide to upgrading your storage in Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar, but as a quick reminder you simply need to speak to Wilbur at his stall on a Saturday during the bazaar. He’s in the bottom right corner next to Miguel. He’ll be able to upgrade your farm 3 times, each time adding a new field.
How to increase crop quality
Eventually you’ll be invited to take part in livestock and crop farm shows. These are well worth your time, so bring along your best quality animal product or crop. If you win bronze or silver then you’ll be able to create higher quality versions of the item you entered, which will mean you can get closer and closer to reaching 5-star quality.
Using the blue windmill
Several hours into the game you’ll unlock the blue windmill. As well as doing the usual processing the red windmill can do, the blue one also allows you to create seeds.
By taking crops and processing them in the blue windmill, you can generate new seeds. Why would you want to do this rather than just sell the crops? Well, the seeds you make in the blue windmill carry the properties of the crops you used to make them. That means if you process 5-star crops, you’ll get 5-star seeds.
You can use this to get tactical about your farming and start levelling up your output. Take some 1-star crops and turn them back into 1-star seeds, then when those are growing make sure you shower them with fertiliser (as high a quality as you can get). The crops that come from those seeds may be 1.5 or even 2-star, at which point you can take some to the blue windmill and convert them back to seeds. Rinse and repeat until you’re a seed mogul hawking 5-star crops at the bazaar and raking in thousands every Saturday.
