Developer Cyber Temple has shown a deeper look at upcoming survival city builder, DarkSwitch, and also confirmed a PC demo is out now.
The new trailer was just revealed during the Future Games Show, and shows “an overview of the world’s background and the challenges of isolation that the player’s settlement faces, surrounded by a relentless fog that harbors monsters threatening to consume it all”, explains the team, adding: “The tone is one of hope, however, as expansion and prosperity prevail in the face of hard choices. But will you be able to survive the threat of mind-crushing fear?”

DarkSwitch is a vertical survival city builder where you manage a city built atop a colossal tree, high above a deadly fog that surrounds it. While city building and survival are the heart of the gameplay, you’ll also engage in quests for exploration, defend your city against the mysterious threats, and unravel a multi-threaded storyline that shapes the future of your people. The narrative unfolds through quests, dialogues, and cutscenes, while gameplay evolves around tasks and building objectives, technology progression and community development. The game’s entire 2-hour prologue is available for everyone to play starting today, introducing players to the basics of long-term strategic survival.
The main antagonist here is the enigmatic fog, which impacts citizens’ health and morale, and is modeled using custom voxel grid technology, creating dynamic, unpredictable fog shifts and ambisonic SFX. A once-thriving society faced a life-threatening enemy when this mysterious mist swept across the lands, warping their minds and consuming everything. In a desperate attempt for survival, those who still stood fled upwards towards the treetops, and rebuilt their homes above the deadly haze. Life is now harsh, the fog is not just a natural disaster, but a living, malevolent force that corrupts it all. As the leader of a treetop colony, you’re responsible for guiding your people through these new challenges, rebuild civilization, explore and scavenge the ruins of a lost era, gather resources for survival, and fight this strange eerie threat. Survival is fragile, but above the ground there is still hope in unity.
DarkSwitch is coming to PC via Steam in October.
