Developer 3DClouds has announced the PC and console release date for upcoming open-wheel sim-cade racer Formula Legends, along with a demo you can play now on PC, and on PS5 and Xbox tomorrow (August 6th).

Formula Legends will be coming to PC, Switch, Xbox Series S|X, and PlayStation 5 on September 18th, then, and it’ll be a lower priced title, costing £19.99 GBP / $19.99 USD / €19.99 EUR. The developer say it “has worked tirelessly on their approachable yet challenging racing game, which emulates the last seventy years of the world’s premier open-world motorsport. Tracks, drivers, teams and cars are all playfully inspired by racing’s past and present.”

“Formula Legends has evolved massively since we announced the game earlier in the year and this new demo is another opportunity for us to learn and evolve the experience as we accelerate to launch,” said Francesco Bruschi, CEO of 3DClouds. “Formula Legends has been a labour of love for the entire team as we’re all massive motorsport fans, and we know that anyone who shares that level of passion will cherish their time with our game.”

The team says you don’t have to take it’s word for how good the game is, as there’s a demo out now for PC. The first public demo was released during Steam Next Fest for June, and 3DClouds says it was played over 50,000 times in a week alone. However, this is a new demo which adds new content. The console demo is coming tomorrow on August 6th. Here’s the bullet-point list of features in the demo for those returning players:

  • Two Game Modes – Custom Race and Time Attack
  • Two Tracks – Belgium and Hungary (Classic and Modern variants)
  • Three Iconic Racing Eras – Mid ‘70s, Early ‘90s, Mid ‘20s (each era is accompanied with a full set of cars, teams and drivers specific to the time).
  • New Extreme Weather – Races can now be conducted in sunny, overcast, wet and stormy conditions to provide additional challenge.
  • Fully Customizable Gameplay – Select opponent difficulty, drive assists, qualifying format, race rules, duration and more options to suit your play style.
  • New Camera Modes – 3DClouds has added multiple new behind the rear wing camera options and based on overwhelming demand from fans a new cockpit cam which makes racing more intense than ever.

We played a build of the game back in June, with Steve saying it “shows great potential in what is quite a niche area of the market, accessible Formula racing. With 14 tracks to master and 16 unique car models promised in the full release, as well as modding support and fully customisable driving assists, this could well be the game that drags doubters out of the pits and sits them squarely at the front of the pack in P1.”

Formula Legends is coming to to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch, and PC on September 18th.
