If you’re going to announce a long rumoured / long hoped for setting for you series as Japan, Tokyo Game Show is the place to do it: enter Forza Horizon 6.
I say long rumoured and hoped for because it’s been that long, I genuinely can’t remember if it started as a leak or just was somewhere the fans desperately wanted developer Playground Games to head with the series. Either way, it’s coming in 2026 to Xbox Series X|S, Cloud, PC (and play anywhere), and also PlayStation 5 “post launch”.
Before we get into more details, though, check out the teaser trailer:
There’s a chunky interview with Art Director, Don Arceta and Cultural Consultant, Kyoko Yamashita for the game over on the official Xbox Wire, where Arceta says: “For a long time, Japan has been top of Horizon fans’ wish lists, so we’re excited to finally be bringing this much-requested location to players in Forza Horizon 6.”
On the location itself, Arceta says: “While we’re not announcing too much in terms of detail right now, we’re excited to show fans the true breadth of beauty – both natural and urban environments – that Japan has to offer. From the neon lights and towering buildings of Tokyo City – one of our most detailed and layered environments to date – to the serenity and natural beauty of Japan’s rural and mountain areas, we think players will be blown away by the open world of Japan that we have built.
And while we are not necessarily trying to recreate Japan and its environments like for like, our goal has always been to capture the country’s unique cultural essence and present it back in the most Horizon way possible.”
As for when the gameplay will be shown? Well, today is just the reveal, and the team says “early 2026” is when more will be shown.
