During every big showcase there will be trailers that make you go “oooh”, but Chronoscript: The Endless End really did look stunning, with its hand-drawn art.
Shueisha Games isn’t an unknown publisher, either. The company has previously released successful titles like Urban Myth Dissolution Center, and has fascinating-looking FPS UNYIELDER coming soon to Steam later this month.
Chronoscript: The Endless End is developed by DeskWorks Inc, and is heading to PC (Steam) and PlayStation 5 at some point in 2026, but it really does look lovely.
It’s an action adventure game, as you can see in the trailer above. Here’s some of the official word on it:
In Chronoscript: The Endless End, players step into the role of an editor in AD 2026 who accepts a strange assignment at a remote mountain manor. After blacking out from a mosquito bite, he awakens inside a cursed manuscript of a thousand-year tale that refuses to end. To break the cycle and bring the tale to its final chapter, players must explore the inked world, uncover hidden truths, and confront the manuscript’s corrupted denizens.
The game’s core action unfolds in a richly illustrated 2D world, while 3D elements are used for cinematic impact – appearing in cutscenes, dynamic map reveals and enemy attacks that strike from beyond the book. Brief moments even pull players into the “real” 3D world through inky rifts, but the journey always returns to the manuscript’s pages.
Tom Fujii, Director, DeskWorks Inc, said: “We’re thrilled to finally announce our new 2D exploration-style action-adventure game! While paying homage to legendary titles that inspired us, we’ve infused the project with our personal passions and creative strengths. The result is a truly unprecedented game experience. We have many ideas we haven’t yet shown in the teaser, so please add it to your wishlist and stay tuned! We’re giving it our all in development!”
Lead Game Artist, Nam Namba added: “As a hand-drawn animator, developing a 2D action game has been both a dream and a goal of mine! We’ve focused on fluid, satisfying controls and fast-paced action, with nearly 100 unique enemies – each with distinct movements and quirks. I hope players enjoy the feel of the characters running through the manuscript pages. Also, I’m thrilled to collaborate with one of my personal favourite creators – their contribution is making the world of Chronoscript even more captivating. Stay tuned for more updates!”
Masami Yamamoto – Producer, Shueisha Games also had a few words for the press release: “DeskWorks has always stood out for its originality and boldness in turning ideas into reality. Chronoscript: The Endless End is a passionate project that sees them fully embrace their favourite genre and push boundaries with near-mad creativity. We hope you’ll support them on this incredible journey.”
Chronoscript: The Endless End is coming to PC and PS5 in 2026.
