Heading Out is coming to consoles, and a Steam update is out today

Life on the highway.
Heading Out

Heading Out, the narrative-driven music-heavy title released last year for PC, is getting an update on Steam today, but also is coming to consoles soon.

Crunching Koalas is developing the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X port of the game, and says that the Steam update will introduce “interface improvements, increased game stability, performance boost, and numerous bugfixes ensuring a smooth and immersive experience on PC and Steam Deck.”

Heading Out is a narrative-focused driving game that blends high-octane chases with introspective storytelling, inspired by classic American road movies. Set in a mythologized version of the United States, players step into the shoes of a mysterious fugitive on the run—part outlaw, part folk hero—racing against fear itself across a stylized, black-and-white landscape.

Every playthrough unfolds as a unique journey, shaped by player choices, procedurally generated encounters, and a dynamic radio system that delivers commentary, news, and music tailored to the player’s actions. With branching narratives, resource management, and high-speed pursuits, Heading Out invites players to write their own legend on the open road.

Developed by Serious Sim, the game launched on Steam in May 2024 to critical acclaim for its distinctive visual style and emotionally resonant themes.

Crunching Koalas hasn’t said specifically when the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X port is coming, just that it’s developing and publishing it. If you don’t yet have it, and the update for Steam sounds appealing, Heading Out is also taking part in the “Crunching Koalas Publisher Sale“, along with other games in its stable.

Heading Out is out now for PC (Steam), and is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X.
