Developer Psychic Software has announced its “story-rich gothic RPG” The Necromancer’s Tale is now available for all to play on PC via Steam.
The Necromancer’s Tale is set in 18th-century Italy, where “necromancy is a dangerous path to power, secrecy, and transformation”. The team says it has blended the narration style of Disco Elysium with tactical CRPG style, saying: “The Necromancer’s Tale invites players to step into the role of a minor noble drawn into the hidden world of death magic and political intrigue. Whether through whispered conversations or forbidden rituals, your every decision shapes not only your fate, but that of the living and the dead.”
“It’s been an incredible journey building this world, one filled with hard work, late nights, and our fair share of madness,” said Game Director Sam Redfern and Marketing Director Kirsty Halloran. “Today, players finally get to step into the shadows we’ve created and write their own dark story. We can’t wait to see where their descent leads.”
Here’s some of the key features:
- Master the Dark Arts: Command the dead and perform chilling necromantic rites to change your fate, and that of others.
- Turn-Based Combat: Deploy your undead minions and allies against supernatural foes, or opt for auto-resolve to focus purely on the story.
- Shape Your Story Through Dialogue: Manipulate factions, build (or destroy) alliances, and navigate a world of secrecy and consequence.
- A Long-Form Narrative Adventure: 25–50 hours of branching, replayable content shaped by your choices, side quests, and hidden discoveries.
It’s a reasonably priced title, too, coming in at $24.99 / €22.99 / £20.99, and there are plans to bring this one to consoles a “a later date”.
