Publisher (and co-developer for this one) Dotemu has announced a big update for Absolum has hit today, adding lots of new content.
The update is called “Threads of Fate”, and contains a new mode, challenges, and much more. In fact, it’s a fairly hefty lift of changes that come with this free update, so we’ve dropped them below, starting with the new mode.
- An All-New Game Mode: Heroes who complete Absolum’s main quest will unlock Mystic Ordeal, which utilizes dozens of modifiers to deliver a steep challenge with surprises and scenarios that boldly contrast from the core adventure
- Take on a fiendish Boss Rush gauntlet, carefully coordinate to avoid co-operative friendly fire, and endure onslaughts from unrelenting hordes – these are just a few of the trials awaiting you in Mystic Ordeal
- Take on challenges crafted by Absolum’s developers, or experiment with different modifier combos to create trials of your own and share them with the community through Custom Ordeal codes
- The upgrade-granting Soul Tree will share new gifts with warriors fearsome enough to overcome Mystic Ordeal’s plights

Elsewhere, the following changes are also part of the update:
- Corrupted Regions: The update also evolves Absolum’s main campaign. After beating the campaign, you will encounter optional Corrupted Regions on your journey, and these areas offer incredible rewards for rebels hearty enough to survive the deadly dangers they harbor
- New Unlockables: The Soul Tree bears new fruit, offering two new skins for each playable character, six additional emote sets, and a way to begin runs while already owning one of the attack-granting Inspirations typically won from boss fights
- New Options and Settings: Toggle damage numbers to gauge exactly how much damage your strikes are dealing, utilize new inputs for throwable items, or enjoy the PC release’s newly uncapped framerate while basking in the game’s vibrant visuals
- Mightier Mounts: Keen-eyed brawlers will notice a new Elite rank of ridable mounts appearing in fights, which boast more damaging attacks and new behaviors
- A Trove of Improvements: Hundreds of quality-of-life refinements enrich Absolum’s thrilling gameplay and captivating adventure, including adjustments to the spawning of mysterious rifts encountered after completing the main game and the rewards they offer
In our review of Absolum, Mick said: “Absolum is a confident side-scroller with satisfying, punchy combat, and a good spread of characters and skills, with plenty to unlock and a solid amount of content given the replayable roguelike nature of the campaign. There are a few things that could do with a tweak such as the abundance of currencies and the lack of context for some story elements, but other than that it’s a good-looking, enjoyable adventure.”
Absolum is out now for PC, Switch, Xbox, and PS5.
