Indie developer Blindflug Studios have just launched WWII base-building strategy game, Ground of Aces, into Early Access and is now available on Steam for Windows PC and Mac.
Launched on the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, Ground of Aces challenges players to take on the role of a British air base commander at the time of the Battle of Britain and play around with the base-building genre. The game allows for a unique outlook into World War II and enlightens players on the challenges that were faced by air base crews.
Players are tasked with constructing, broadening and protecting their air base, all whilst controlling pilots, aircrafts and critical missions to give themselves the best chance at winning the war. Taking inspiration from other base-building games like Rimworld and Going Medieval, Ground of Aces’ art style pays homage to the “ligne claire” style of Franco-Belgian comics.
The Early Access version of Ground of Aces includes the British Royal Air Force as the first playable faction, offering 14 iconic British aircrafts for players to obtain and add to their bases. Players can expect frequent updates that improve the scope and depth of the game as development continues.
Ultimately, within Ground of Aces, players position themselves in the shoes of a Royal Air Force commander, defending bases from enemy attacks and collecting World War II aircraft during the Battle of Britain. Your base is unique as it is shaped by your own decisions that you make as you play, allowing you to design and expand it with complete freedom.
You must strategically choose the right planes for every mission and ensure that your base is ready for anything that may come its way and take powerful command of your crew. Your crew are loyal but traumatised, changed by the long-lasting effects of war on their minds. They are more than just numbers – they are individuals and, as you play, you will witness their ups and their downs first-hand and feel the crushing weight of every loss suffered.
