Big Fan (a publishing label under Devolver Digital) has laid out the plans for popular card-based game, Monster Train 2, and there’s loads coming down the line.
Developer Shiny Shoe has been very busy, it seems, as the first free update has just launched, and is called “Lost Arsenal”. Along with this update, the Deluxe Edition of the game is 10% off on PC (includes the soundtrack and a compendium, along with the base game).
The team says: “Lost Arsenal continues the pivotal fight of angelic and demonic forces to wrest Heaven’s control from the invading Titans’ corruption, but Monster Train 2’s battlefield is shifting. Mysterious rooms are appearing that didn’t exist before, and sacred relics are returning to their original guardians, the beloved playable warriors returning from the original Monster Train. Seers across every clan are raising the alarm as a new threat now looms on the horizon.”
You can find the full details of the update on the official Steam page, but here’s the key points:
- Expand Your Deck: Draw new Room, Equipment, and Spell Clan cards, including clanless Room and Equipment cards. These clanless cards will add more versatility to runs, and new varieties can be found from Merchants.
- Balanced Chaos: Original Monster Train clan cards have been improved to better integrate with Monster Train 2’s gameplay, along with improved balancing across all clans.
- New Nintendo Switch Setting: On Nintendo Switch, players can now unlock the frame rate in Monster Train 2. This is primarily intended for players on the Nintendo Switch 2 system to take advantage of the console’s enhanced performance.
As can you can see from the above image, there’s plenty more coming, too. The next update will add new bosses, with “surprise new content”, coming in the third, and then an entirely new game mode in the paid DLC down the line.
In our review of Monster Train 2 we said: “Monster Train 2 is a game that a dedicated crowd will still be playing in five years, and it absolutely has the depth to facilitate that. The options at your disposal for taking down the titans and creating the best defensive deck possible is truly staggering, and the battles themselves are always engaging. It might take you a bit of time to absorb everything you need to guide angelic and demonic warriors to victory, but once you have that knowledge you’ll never want to put Monster Train 2 down.”
Monster Train 2 is out now for PC, Switch Xbox, and PS5.
