At launch, we knew that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds was going to get a lot of crossover add-on packs, but the Spongebob Squarepants was high on the list of most-wanted, and now it’s been released, and it’s a fairly bumper pack.
SEGA says: “Players can now get behind the wheel of the Patty Wagon as SpongeBob himself or his best friend Patrick and race for first place through Bikini Bottom”. And indeed, like the previous packs for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, it’s not just a simple skin or character pack, as it contains:
- SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star as playable characters
- Patty Wagon Vehicle
- Bikini Bottom Themed Course
- New SpongeBob SquarePants-inspired Music Tracks
- Six different emotes per character
Players who own the Digital Deluxe Edition will automatically receive the SpongeBob SquarePants Pack as part of the Season Pass. For those who want to take part in the SpongeBob SquarePants fun, the entire Season Pass is separately available for £24.99, which includes access to even more exciting characters, vehicles, and courses. Players can also purchase the standalone SpongeBob SquarePants Pack for £4.99.
Players who do not own the SpongeBob SquarePants Pack will still be able to compete online against those who do and will be able to race on the Bikini Bottom course against the SpongeBob SquarePants characters.
In our review of the game back in September, we said: “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds isn’t just the best racing game I’ve played all year, it’s the best racing game I’ve played in ages. The racing is frantic and fun, the variety of characters and weapons is impressive, and the amount of content is simply wild. If you go into this kart racer expecting it to struggle against its peers then you’re in for a shock, because Sonic and company are now in a league of their own.”
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is out now for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
