11 bit studios has revealed the release date for The Alters, and players aren’t going to have to wait too long until they get the chance to dive in. It was announced as part of the 2025 Triple-I Initiative that it will be coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on June 13. Not only that, The Alters is coming day one to Game Pass for Xbox and PC.
What if survival meant facing the versions of yourself you never became? The version of you who chose family over going to college? The version of you who chased down your high school sweetheart and made her your wife or the version of you who lost her? In The Alters, the upcoming sci-fi game from 11 bit studios (makers of This War of Mine and Frostpunk), where survival has never been so personal, the path to salvation begins with a question as old as humanity: What if I had chosen differently?
To celebrate the announcement, a trailer has been released. The Alters is looking excellent. Knowing that it will be here in little over two months is so exciting. The release date trailer for The Alters shows off the struggles of exploring the planet’s biomes, filled with deadly anomalies. Players need to take a careful approach to uncovering them or else death is an almost certainty. Special tools can be used to reveal these threats, where anomalies, radiation-induced injuries, and the disintegration of time and space itself are always looming.
These ‘alters’ are different versions of the main character. Jan Dolski needs to create various versions of himself to survive, with each one having their own memories, skills, and personalities. On the flipside, they also carry their own “conflict, doubt, and emotional baggage.” Base-building, exploration, and survival are key components of the game, but there’s also an emotional story at its core.
