During the 185th Warframe Devstream, Digital Extremes revealed a host of new features coming to its free-to-play looter RPG and spin-off-cum-expansion Warframe: 1999. Notably, Warframe: 1999 is receiving a new free update on March 19th called “Techrot Encore”, which brings with it four new Protoframes. Listed below, each will also come with their own storylines and cosmetic Gemini skins to unlock.

“Flare (Temple) aims to become the ultimate work of art and transcend the boundaries of gender and biology alike. Minerva (Saryn) and Velimir II (Frost) are hardened military veterans once in love as well as the adoptive parents of Warframe: 1999 antagonist Major Rusalka. Kaya (Nova) acts as the self-taught engineering genius of the new crew with a special interest in cracking time travel.”

You’ll also be able to take on two brand new mission types: Stage Defense will see you defending Flare as they put on a “memorable” tribute concert for their lost band mates, while Temporal Archimedea will task you with partnering with Minerva and Velimir II to battle through three randomly selected back-to-back missions. A new “Peely Pix” system will generate upgradable modifiers that change the flow and structure of each run.

In regards to the main game, Warframe will see the release of its 60th Warframe, Temple, a music-themed, hard-rocking frame with a sapient, Techrot-infested guitar called Lizzie for a weapon. Temple will invite enemies to pray at the altar of rock, setting off deadly flame jets while shredding a powerful solo, and using heatwave projectiles to destroy their enemies. They’ll also summon “Techrot Subwoofer” minions to buff allies and defuff the opposition.

The Devstream also revealed a new trailer for Techrot Encore, below, and confirmed new upcoming ticket sales on March 7 for the “TennoConcert”, a music festival set to take place in the Canada Life Palace, Southwestern Ontario’s biggest arena.

Warframe is a free-to-play sci-fi looter-shooter developed by Digital Extremes and available on PC, PS5, Xbox S/X, and Nintendo Switch. Warframe: 1999 is a free-to-play standalone expansion.
