New League of Legends fighter 2XKO launches for free today

Free-to-play, with plenty on the roadmap.

If you’re a fan of fighting games, a new contender enters the ring today, with Riot Games’ League of Legends 2v2 tag-team fighter 2XKO out on PC and consoles.

Season 1 sees the official launch of the 2026 competitive roadmap as well for 2XKO, a fighter that’s been a very long time coming. While you may not realise it from the title of the game, it’s a League of Legends spinoff featuring characters you may know from that game (and universe), but it’s also very friendly for newcomers to the genre.

While “tag fighters” aren’t a new thing, Riot Games explains that “2XKO features a 2v2 gameplay experience where you and a partner team up and take on opponents together”, which certainly is a new idea. There’s cross play and cross progression between PC and console (Xbox Series X|S and PS5), and season 1’s list of content includes:

  • A new champion, Caitlyn, available at launch with free unlock options through a limited-time recruitment event.
  • Cross-play and cross-progression across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
  • A tiered Season 1 Battle Pass, featuring a free track and multiple premium options with earnable cosmetics and progression rewards.
  • Arcade, a mythic-tier seasonal skin line and Season 1 thematic.
  • Frame Perfect, a competitive-themed skin line available throughout the season that shares a portion of proceeds with tournament organizers worldwide through prize pool and event production funding.

Having had a (very) brief play this morning, it shows some serious promise. It offers the “mashy” option if you are new to the genre as well, so you can execute some cool looking combos and special moves without having to learn loads of combos.

The “Season 0” content is also back for console players, meaning you can catch up on that, and there are weekly mission and shop resets coming every Thursday.

2XKO is out now for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
