Konami has announced that sales of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater have now surpassed over a million units since launch on August 28th. These figures are taken from a combination of the sales from PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, from internal tracking data.
It’s maybe not hugely surprising, given that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a remake of the third Metal Gear Solid, a title which many laud as one of the greatest games of all time. Publisher Konami says that: “This achievement reflects the enduring popularity of the Metal Gear franchise, recognized as one of the most influential in video game history. More than two decades after the original release of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the story, themes and gameplay continue to resonate with fans worldwide.”
The publisher adds: “Everything players loved about the original returns; its story, characters, voice acting, gameplay, and music, now rebuilt for modern hardware with a level of detail never before possible. Expansive jungles, forests, and swamps are brought to life in breath-taking realism, while characters show lifelike expression down to the finest details of skin and movement.
This authenticity extends to battle itself, where Snake’s clothing tears and wounds remain etched on his body, telling the story of each player’s journey. Every cutscene and every corner of the world has been enhanced with cutting-edge technology, breathing new life into a classic while preserving its legendary core.”
Chris White really enjoyed the remake, and in his review said: “For those who never played the original, this is a perfect remake in the sense little has changed. The gameplay adjustments make Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater a must-play. It looks incredible in every way. The cutscenes make it feel as though you’re playing through a movie, and it’s amazing to think this game originally came out so long ago. For purists, a lot of it remains unchanged. This is going to either be a blessing or a curse, but one thing is clear, Snake Eater is one of the most important video games of all time.”
