Developer Donkey Crew has detailed a major update for Bellwright after a year in early access, with butchery, fishing, and much more.

“We’ve been blown away by the incredible support from our community over this first year,” said Project Lead Florian “chadz” Hoffreither from Donkey Crew. “Every piece of feedback, every settlement built, and every uprising fought has helped shape Bellwright into what it is today and what it’s still becoming.”

Here’s the list of the key features from the latest press release:

  • Animal Husbandry Introduced: Players can now purchase animals from merchants and house them in husbandry structures, raising them for resources like eggs, feathers, milk, and meat.
  • Fishing System Added: A fully-featured fishing system with multiple mini-games, diverse fish types, and a Fishing Hut — villagers can fish autonomously too.
  • Butchery & Carcass Overhaul: A new Butchery structure improves resource yields from animals, with the ability to skin or process carcasses for better results.
  • Over 25 New Quests Added: Includes continuations to popular questlines like Whodunit?, expanding the game’s narrative depth and exploration.
  • Traveling Merchants Added: NPC merchants now travel between settlements, offering unique trading opportunities and adding life to the game world.
  • Explorable New Locations: New swamp bridges, mountain trails, caves, and a Highlands bridge Reworked swamp areas, shorelines, and waterfalls for enhanced exploration and immersion.
  • Library System Added: Villagers can now store and read books based on priorities, adding a new layer of depth to settlement management.
  • Major Crafting UI Overhaul: A refreshed crafting interface with item stats, sorting, and clarity improvements — addressing a longtime player request.
  • Saveable Squad Rosters: Players can now save and reuse squad configurations, streamlining battle and adventure preparation.

The team says you can sign up for the mod kit here, adding: “As part of the anniversary celebration, players eager to shape the world of Bellwright can register now for a chance to be among the first to test Bellwright’s New Mod Kit, coming soon. This highly-anticipated toolset will empower players to create, customize, and share their own content, expanding the Bellwright universe in new and unexpected ways.”

Lastly of note, the game is 10% off until April 28th, so if you’ve never played, that’s a good option.

Bellwright is in early access on PC now.
