Limited Run Games has announced the brand new 16-bit shoot ’em up Earthion will be launching for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and…Genesis/Mega Drive. The space-themed 2D side scroller has been in development at Ancient Corporation, the studio of Streets of Rage and ActRaiser composer, Yuzo Koshiro. It’ll feature eight levels with unique environments, enemies, and huge bosses that take up the entire screen.
Featuring eight action-packed stages full of stunning visuals, frenetic gameplay, and amazing special effects—not to mention an incredible soundtrack composed by the legendary Yuzo Koshiro—Earthion will have you on the edge of your seat as you fight to save humanity’s future.
Releasing digitally everywhere else, the physical copies of Earthion will run natively on SEGA Genesis (or Mega Drive to use Brits). The visuals, which you can see in the trailer below, are pushing the hardware to its limits. It also features 27 original tracks from Koshiro, which to be fair, is enough to sell it to us right now. The development team is also pretty fantastic. Makoto Wada who worked on Gotta Protectors and Royal Anapoko Academy is involved, as is Japanese artist Mitsuhiro Arita, known for his work with Marvel Comics and Pokémon Trading Cards.
Here are some of Earthion’s key features:
- 8 Stages of arcade action with unique environments, enemies and bosses
- Music and sound by Yuzo Koshiro
- 27 Original Tracks and countless sound effects
- Multiple difficulties and challenge mode
- Configurable scanlines and display settings for CRT emulation
- Level Password System
- Music Player Mode
- Includes bonus playable demos from the games development
- Online Leaderboards (not available for Genesis/Mega Drive editions of Earthion)
As mentioned, you can watch the trailer below. Nostalgic games might not be for everyone, but when the calibre at Ancient Corporation is so good, it’s hard not to get a little excited.
