It feels like Xbox owners have been waiting to hear this a long time, but Helldivers 2 is coming to Xbox on August 26th.
Released on PlayStation 5 and PC back in February 2024, Helldivers 2 has been a fan favourite, and gone from strength to strength with its tactical co-op shooting. Arrowhead Game Studios has made titles like Magicka, Gauntlet, and of course the Helldivers series, but this second game in the series has been the most popular one for the studio by miles.
Game Director Mikael Eriksson told Xbox Wire: “We know gamers have been asking for this for some time and we are so excited to bring more Helldivers into our game. We have so much more in store for the future months and years – and the more players we have the more stories we can tell! The fight for Super Earth has only just begun.”
Both the standard edition and the Super Citizen Edition of Helldivers 2 are available to pre-order now, and it’s already been confirmed that the game will have cross-play between Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, and PC. Having played it using cross-play between PS5 and PC, it’s seamless, so it’s great that more people can play together.
HELLDIVERS 2 is a 3rd person squad-based shooter that sees the elite forces of the Helldivers battling to win an intergalactic struggle to rid the galaxy of the rising alien threats. From a 3rd person perspective, players use a variety of weapons (pistols, machine guns, flamethrowers) and stratagems (turrets, airstrikes, etc.) to shoot and kill the alien threats. Players can also aim down the sights for a more accurate 1st person camera view. Combat is accompanied by frequent sprays of blood and dismemberment as players exterminate the alien forces or players and squad mates are hit by environmental explosions or friendly fire. Enemy encampments and battlefield environments depict bloodstains and dismembered corpses.
