After ten whole years of waiting, Behaviour Interactive have finally teased that Jason is coming to Dead by Daylight.
In many ways the killer that started it all in terms of asymmetric horror, Jason has been one of the last icons of the genre that’s clearly missing from the stacked roster of killers. Now he’s finally officially on the way though, and the speculation about how his powers will work can truly begin.
I can’t pretend I actually know that much about Jason Voorhees as a character, outside of the fact he wears a hockey mask and swings a machete around. It’s often Dead by Daylight that encourages me to check out classic horror franchises, so I imagine a binge of some Friday the 13th movies is very much in my future. With so many references to the number thirteen built into Dead by Daylight though (like the fact it resets everyone’s rank on the thirteenth of every month) the slasher icon already feels like he’ll fit in perfectly.
In fact the teaser reveal of Jason was at the end of a thirteen hour live stream, so perhaps the most savvy and/or desperate fans had a glimmer of hope that today would finally be the day. With the tenth anniversary of one of my all time favourite multiplayer games just around the corner, it’s almost a guarantee that we’ll find out more about Jason and some other Dead by Daylight news rather soon.
Over the course of these ten years we’ve had a ridiculous amount of content added to the highly successful game, and I can only hope that there’s another ten years to come full of slashing and hooking survivors. One thing is for sure though, this next era of horror will begin with Jason filling out the roster and sacrificing some innocent people.
