Cosy games have been the new hotness for a while, because everybody just wants to relax and forget about the real world sometimes. I often enjoy the idea of a cosy game more than playing it though, because when a game is too relaxing I often find myself a bit bored. This is the main reason I never fell in love with Animal Crossing, because despite the obvious charm I just wanted more fun things to do. Monster Fantasy wants to help people like me enjoy a similar cosy experience, while also fighting and taming monsters.
For those seeking a calm life and a pretty house, Monster Fantasy looks to deliver. It features all your favourite cosy activities, like fishing, cooking and of course building and decorating the perfect home. The world has a whole village full of people to charm and character with, providing a delightful laid back social life for those looking for it.
For the others who want something a bit more intense, you’ll be going monster hunting. This all looked rather Monster Hunter-esque, with massive foes in need of carving up. There are four combat classes you’ll be able to choose from to use when beating up griffons and the like, ranging from the more standard swordsman to a ranged archer and even a mage. Developers Jotoyo has specifically said that a single character can learn all skills without worrying too, so there’s no getting locked into a single combat style.
Alongside everything else the game looks gorgeous, and like a big budget title over a small indie. I will absolutely be tempted to give it a try whenever it releases, and will be keeping on more news as it comes for Monster Fantasy.
Independent video games studio, Jotoyo Games has officially unveiled their new premium life sim, role-playing game Monster Fantasy. This exciting release for PC blends thrilling freeform moment-to-moment combat with village management and life simulation elements – wrapped up in a colourful Chibi aesthetic.
Monster Fantasy is being developed by a 20-person team in China with decades of industry experience. Early footage of the game’s combat went viral on the popular video site Bilibili earlier this year with over 1 million views of pre-alpha footage and today marks the first time potential players can learn about the game’s setting, background and aspirations.
“Our ambition is to break down the barrier between action games and cozy games, creating a world where players of different ages, skill levels, and play preferences can each find their own kind of enjoyment,” explains Jotoyo founder, Allan Xai.
“We hope Monster Fantasy can become a bridge that brings friends and family together. Core players can share the joy of gaming with the people close to them, while casual players can find a warm, welcoming world to return to. We also hope the game can become a quiet emotional shelter, giving players a moment of peace when they feel tired or overwhelmed.”
Monster Fantasy is coming to PC.
