SEGA has announced two legendary composers will be behind the music for upcoming 2D action platformer Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. Tiago “Tee” Lopes of Sonic Mania and Streets of Rage 4 fame will be working alongside The Revenge of Shinobi, Streets of Rage, and Shenmue composer Yuzo Koshiro. This is great news for those hoping its soundtrack sticks to the original while also offering a new flavour.
Created in collaboration with Lizardcube, the studio behind the acclaimed Streets of Rage 4, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance follows longtime series protagonist and master of the ninja arts, Joe Musashi, who arrives home from a previous adventure to find his village burned to the ground and his clan turned into stone. Driven by vengeance, Joe sets off on an epic quest, battling hordes of enemies and larger-than-life bosses across stunning hand-drawn worlds. Rife with multiple paths to discover or unlock and packed with smooth, satisfying gameplay, SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance will have players attacking and reacting on the move— and keep them coming back for more.
Tee Lopes began creating remixes for Sonic the Hedgehog before getting the job of lead composer on a handful of Sonic games like Team Sonic Racing, Sonic Frontiers, and Sonic Origins. He’s also composed music for Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge. As for Yuzo Koshiro, the man is an icon. Starting in the 80s, Koshiro’s music for the original Streets of Rage was way ahead of its time. Managing to make chiptune sound so varied and cool made him one of the figureheads of that generation.
Lead composer Tee Lopes shared a message for fans which you can watch below. This news is so exciting, and we can’t wait for Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, especially now it has such an incredible team behind its music. Roll on release date!
