Unknown Worlds Entertainment has announced the early access release date for one of the most-wanted games on Steam: Subnautica 2 is coming on May 14th.
As well as Steam early access, Subnautica 2 will be hitting Epic Games Store and Xbox Preview Program for Xbox Series X|S on the same date.
“We’re excited for players to experience Subnautica 2, beginning May 14th!” said Ted Gill, CEO of Unknown Worlds. “Our team cannot wait to hear your feedback as the game evolves throughout Early Access.”
The newly released trailer captures the series’ immersive world and atmosphere through cinematic storytelling. It seamlessly introduces new underwater vehicles and tools while unfolding a tense sequence where fellow explorers are threatened one by one by alien creatures, maximizing the franchise’s signature sense of awe and tension.
Created by Unknown Worlds, founded by Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire, Subnautica 2 is the official sequel to the Subnautica series, which has sold more than 18.5 million copies worldwide and helped define the ocean survival genre. The game has ranked No.1 on Steam’s wishlist for nine consecutive months since September 2025, making it one of the most highly anticipated titles of the year.
Unknown Worlds says that Subnautica 2 has been the number one “wishlisted game on Steam for nine consecutive months”, which is perhaps not a surprise given how popular the original game was. It seems fans fans will be able to play it and see if the wait has been worth it.
Subnautica 2 is coming to PC and Xbox Series X|S on May 14th.
