11 bit studios has announced The Alters – Expedition Logs, a series documenting the journey behind the game that is due out on PC and consoles later this year. Survival has never been as personal as it is in The Alters. Personality is all about the choices that define us and in The Alters, both past and present decisions matter, as the game’s narrative seeks to answer one of humanity’s most profound questions: What if I had taken a different path in life?
To help us understand a bit more around the thinking, background and mechanics we can expect from The Alters, 11 bit studios, the creators of This War of Mine, and Frostpunk have created the Expedition Logs. In it they will explore the challenges that make The Alters a truly personal and one-of-a-kind survival experience. Each entry will take us deeper into the heart of The Alters—from its unique approach to survival to the mysteries of the planet, and the emotional struggle of working alongside alternate versions of yourself.

The first log explores the foundation of The Alters – how it starts as a survival game yet quickly transforms into something much more. As the series unfolds, they’ll delve into the real challenge: managing your own alternate selves. Can you lead versions of yourself who may resent you—or believe they should be in charge instead? They’ll also tackle the pressure of time, limited resources, and tough decisions that leave no one truly satisfied, as well as the final additions made to the game in the last stretch of development.
The Alters launches later in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, also in Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
