Developer Nullpointer Games has announced the release date for upcoming puzzler, The Horror at Highrook, and it’s coming in May.
The Horror at Highrook is developed by a solo dev, and it’s coming to PC on May 1st, announced during the Lovecraftian Days showcase, whereby a new release date trailer was revealed.
Here’s the key features from the press release:
- Explore an atmospheric setting on the edge of nightmare – Plunge into a dark Victorian world, inspired by HP Lovecraft, Edgar Allen Poe and Bram Stoker. Investigate a gothic-horror mystery through disturbing letters, fraught conversations and evocative artwork.
- Learn the dark arts – Combine characters, items and locations to craft tools, potions and occult rites. Master a deep, nonlinear crafting system as you progress through the story, gaining the strength and insight needed to succeed.
- Manage a team of investigators – Control unique characters from the city’s elite guilds: Mecanist, Plague Doctor, Scholar and Thug, Each with their own skills and perspectives. Keep your team safe from Hunger, Injury and Madness.
- Unlock mysteries – Complete challenges to open up new areas, items and characters on the game board. Build an arsenal of tools and rites. Banish ghastly entities and keep your wits in order to survive and outwit the dark forces hidden beneath the surface of the world.
A unique, enigmatic and cunning puzzle box of a game, The Horror at Highrook invites players to explore the Highrook Manor in search of the Ackerons – a noble family, who have vanished into thin air, following rumours of shadowy pacts and dangerous dealings with the dark.
Players will lead and manage a team of occult investigators – Vitali: The Scholar, Astor: The Mecanist, Atticus: The Hireling and Caligar: The Plague Doctor – into the dark, yawning maw of the Ackeron estate. As they explore the accursed grounds, they will meet otherworldly entities and craft powerful protections in a bid to uncover the fate of the missing family.
The Horror at Highrook delivers deeply rewarding tabletop inspired gameplay, featuring tactile and beautifully illustrated card-driven mechanics, and a mysteriously engrossing gothic-horror narrative that satisfyingly unfurls in front of the player as the dimly-lit manor begins to shed its secrets.
The Horror at Highrook is coming to PC via Steam on May 1st. A demo is out now, showcasing the first chapter.
