My favourite semi-serious work sim, PowerWash Simulator 2, is back again with another DLC pack featuring six new levels to clean. Following on from a trip to the Land of Ooo in the Adventure Time Pack, we’re now off to a galaxy far, far away in a pack based on some iconic Star Wars locales.
I’m going to assume you’ve played PowerWash Simulator 2 before so won’t go through the ins and outs of how you play. If you’re reading this then you’re probably just interested in how Star Wars-y it is, and my answer to that is a resounding: very!
Now, I’m not going to profess to being the biggest Star Wars fan. I’ve seen the movies barring 8 and 9, and I’ve played a lot of the games, with Jedi Survivor being one of my favourite games in recent years. I still know enough to spot plenty of references crammed into these levels though, starting with your playable character, the P0-W2 washer droid. It’s a neat way to bring you into the world rather than just making you feel like a tourist cleaning a Star Wars theme park.
The levels themselves are a mixed bag, which is a shame as they’re basically the sole reason to buy the pack. The first two are set on Lars Homestead and the Mos Eisley Cantina: locations I know are genuinely iconic but they just don’t make enjoyable PowerWash Simulator levels. This is a game that’s usually packed full of colour, whether it’s a fancy house or a billboard by the side of a desert highway. The aforementioned Adventure Time pack was so full of colour to the point it was occasionally difficult to look at, but here it feels like we’ve gone the other way and our first two levels are boring, bland and sometimes too dark and dingy too. It gets better later on, when you’re scaling a huge AT-AT while there’s burning wreckage dotted around in the snow below you but in general this pack just didn’t blow me away.
There’s not really much more to say about the Star Wars DLC Pack. You’ll be buying it for the levels and while I found them a bit hit or miss, a more seasoned Star Wars fanatic might relish the chance to clean an AT-AT’s knee joints or polish every pipe behind the bar in the cantina. If you’re that particular cross-section of gamer that loves slowly and methodically cleaning stuff as well as the biggest sci-fi franchise of all time then you’ll probably like this too.
