Is there fast travel in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?

Can you zip around the world?
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a fantastic new RPG from Sandfall Interactive, but players might be wondering early on: is there fast travel?

The answer to this is slightly complicated, because there both is fast travel, but also not quite a full fast travel system as you might traditionally expect.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has a larger overworld map, which is broken up into “levels” or “dungeons”, whichever you prefer to call it. Within these levels you will find flags with numbers on, that are planted from previous Expedition teams that have come before the 33-team. Unlocking these allows you to level up, unlock skills, and fast travel. However, you can only fast travel between the flags within that level.

What about later in the game?

Later on once the world map becomes easier to navigate (via story means we won’t spoil here), you can never actually “fast travel” from a location to another location. You will eventually be able to get around the overworld map faster thanks to abilities you unlock, but you will always have to physically navigate your characters to the entry point on that overworld map.

During act 3 you will be able to “exit to continent” from the flags within levels, which means if you find things a bit too tough on any given section, you can warp back out to the overworld outside the level entrance. Then, of course, once you enter, there is almost always a flag right near the start, and you could fast travel back to the flag you were last at.

So there you have it. Is there fast travel in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33? Yes and no. There is within levels, and you can definitely get around faster as the game progresses, but you can’t just warp from location to location.
