Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the debut title from studio Sandfall Interactive, and has received stellar reviews so far – but how long is the game?
A few of our team here have been playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and have pooled together our playthroughs to work out the average time it’ll take to beat the game. That said, there are some caveats. First up, we’re talking story here. There’s a huge amount of side content you can access at various points during the game, but some is locked behind later game mechanics and will be far too difficult until you’ve levelled up sufficiently.
With that in mind, here’s how long it takes to beat Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – How long is the main story?
Given an average playing who will do some (but not all) of the side content as it becomes available, playing on the standard difficulty, we feel it will take 30-34 hours to finish the main story.
To be clear, this is to see credits and the narrative ending of the game. There will be dungeons, objectives, items, and all manner of things you don’t see until you load up the game after finishing it.
There are three acts (the second is probably the longest), and lots of cut-scenes to enjoy. Try not to rush this one.
Is there a point of no return?
There is a point of no return, but it’s right before the finale of the game. This means if you die you can just exit from the checkpoint to the overworld map, and carry on exploring.
While the game doesn’t explicitly say “this is the end coming up”, it’s fairly obvious from a story standpoint that you’re about to finish it.
Can you explore after the end of the game?
Yes. You can reload your save after seeing credits, and exit to the overworld map and continue exploring side content.
Is there a New Game Plus?
Yes. There is a new game plus for Expedition 33, accessible after finishing the game.
So there you have it, you now know how long it takes to beat Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and can carve out your time accordingly for this wonderful debut RPG from Sandfall Interactive.
