2K Games and Gearbox has announced a release date change for Borderlands 4, and remarkably, it’s actually earlier than before.
The new date, then, is September 12th. The message was dropped on X, as follows:
It has been incredible seeing the response as we move ever closer to release. Our team has thrown themselves headfirst into making this the greatest Borderlands yet – both for new and returning Vault Hunters.
After careful consideration – along with a LOT of meetings, playtesting, and incredible development work – we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCH DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to September 12.
You’ll be able to crash into Kairos two weeks sooner. We’re BEYOND excited to share the new world with all of you ahead of schedule.
And if that still doesn’t feel soon enough?
Join us this Wednesday, April 30, at 2pm PT for PlayStation’s State of Play focused solely on Borderlands 4 and get an extended look at the action-packed insanity that awaits you on Kairos.
The aforementioned State of Play is set to be 20 minutes long (well, just over), and Graeme Timmins (Creative Director, Gearbox Software) says: “In this upcoming State of Play, strap in with me and Anthony Nicholson, Senior Project Producer, for over 20 minutes of developer-guided gameplay, including missions, killer weapons, exciting Action Skills, new and returning characters, and more.”

Borderlands 4 is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X on September 12th.
