Publisher Infogrames has announced that Bread & Fred (the co-op penguin platformer) will be getting a big updated called “Laboratory Update” for PC and Switch.
There’s a large map coming as part of the update, which will include new mechanics, NPCs, and lore, says the team, along with “several new puzzle rooms and secret capybaras to discover”. Best of all, the update is free, though you will need to have completed the base game to get to the new co-op mode.
Here’s the key features from the update:
- All New Platforms: Electronic Platforms: Activated by Buttons, Lasers or Sensors
- Impulse Platforms: Launch the penguins if they jump at the right time, also activated by Buttons, Lasers or Sensors
- Rotating Platforms: Platforms that turn automatically
- All New Boss Room: At the top of the lab, players will have to beat 4 different timed puzzles in the same Boss room before the time runs out.
- Secret Capybaras: Traverse through 5 secret zones throughout the Lab, with puzzle challenges that will lead Bread and Fred to each lost Capybara.
Elsewhere, Sand Castles Studio has announced that Bread & Fred will be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X “soon”, meaning it’ll be on PC and all modern consoles, which is nice. The game will be 35% off for the currently available platforms, as well.
Bread & Fred is a challenging co-op platformer from Apogee where two players must cooperate to jump and climb to the top of a snowy mountain. Play as both Bread and Fred in their exasperating and sometimes maddening climb that requires precision with every jump. Each time you land you’ll be closer to the peak and one step closer to mastering the platforming, but your fall down the mountain will be even farther.
Each fall will hurt, but try to learn and laugh through it. Think carefully about each jump and master the penguin skills to reach the summit.
For the craziest climbers, Bread & Fred includes a speedrun mode so you can compete and be crowned the best penguins on the planet.
Bread & Fred is out now for PC and Nintendo Switch.
