Fans of fighting and gore have a lot to celebrate right now, as last night during the PlayStation State of Play Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection was announced.

Featuring a whole host of retro Mortal Kombat offerings, this is the perfect bundle for fans of the series. Not content with throwing every old Mortal Kombat game they could find (including portable, console and arcade versions of the games) into this collection, Digital Eclipse has also put together an interactive documentary so you can find out everything there is to know about this classic fighting game franchise and its history.

Digital Eclipse, a renowned retro gaming studio focused on the digital restoration of classic video games, and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, have revealed Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, the ultimate historical compilation of Mortal Kombat titles. Featuring multiple klassic games from the 90s and early 2000s, including arcade, console, and handheld versions, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is set to launch in 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One consoles, PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch.

Developed and published by Digital Eclipse and officially licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection brings together a vast library of titles from the franchise’s early years, with original arcade games, the iconic Super NES and Sega Genesis home versions, and releases across Game Boy, Game Gear, Sega 32X, Game Boy Advance, and more platforms – all newly enhanced with player-friendly features. Online support with rollback netcode will be added to many of the arcade and console editions.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection also includes an interactive documentary chronicling the series’ groundbreaking history, featuring rare concept art, archival video footage, and exclusive new and vintage interviews with original creators Ed Boon, John Tobias, Dan Forden, and John Vogel, along with dozens more, to tell one of the gaming industry’s most compelling origin stories.

Currently announced games in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection include:

  • Mortal Kombat – 1992 (Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear)
  • Mortal Kombat II – 1993 (Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, 32X)
  • Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995 (Arcade, SNES, Genesis)
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995 (Arcade, SNES)
  • Mortal Kombat 4 – 1997 (Arcade)
  • Mortal Kombat Advance – 2001 (Game Boy Advance)
  • Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance – 2002 (Game Boy Advance)
  • Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition – 2003 (Game Boy Advance)

The amount of care and content being put into this Kollection is truly impressive, and I love the idea of making a bundle of older titles more special this way.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is coming later this year.
