Over on the official blog, developer Bungie has announced the Marathon closed alpha NDA has been lifted, and people can now openly share impressions and stream the game.
Announced to a fairly mixed reception (to say the least), Marathon is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X on September 23rd, and a closed alpha was in progress with an NDA preventing players from sharing feedback publicly. That has now changed, with Bungie saying: “Everyone can share their thoughts, feedback, and footage, including streaming starting on April 23.”
The developer adds: “This is a true closed technical test of Marathon. What that means is that you’ll be playing an incomplete version of the game. Our primary goal is to test two things: technical capabilities and our moment-to-moment gameplay loop. We plan to break stuff.”
There’s a heap of things the team says it’s going to be taking a look at, from weapons and gunplay to maps and survival, early-game progression, and a lot more. Bungie says that there’s loads that’s not final, including the visuals and user interface, too.
Bungie said: “Keeping an open dialogue is a crucial part of Alpha and beyond. We’ve been tracking several topics since Reveal and we’re looking forward to seeing and hearing your feedback as you play Alpha. After the Closed Alpha Test ends, we’ll be summarizing the major things we heard, our thoughts, and what comes next.”
Narrative Leader Jonathan Goff told PS Blog: “The interweaving of narratives, events, and characters in the original trilogy delivered a world of discovery, wonder, and misdirection”, adding: ““We’re embracing this approach to expand and explore what’s known about the worlds of Marathon through a new lens—the eyes of Runners, who are stepping into the world of Tau Ceti IV and Marathon to uncover the secrets hidden in the wake of the original trilogy’s events”.
Marathon is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox on September 23rd.
