Mobile gaming giant NetEase Games has announced that its new free-to-play mobile Destiny spin-off, Destiny: Rising, will launch around the world on August 28 2025. It will be available on iOS and Android devices, and you can pre-order it now.
In an all-new saga, players will be cast as the Wolf, a unique and fully-customisable protagonist – although interestingly, you’ll also be able to play as some of Destiny’s most iconic characters like Warlock Vanguard Ikora Rey. Despite running for over ten years, this is the first time the sci-fi MMO looter-shooter franchise has come to mobile devices.
To make it feel just that little bit more live-service-y, you’ll equip a “Relic” each time you enter the fray, each of which grants different supers and abilities. You’ll also be able to wield a primary and secondary weapon, both of which are customisable to let you put your own spin on them. Not only that, but Destiny: Rising will add a completely new weapon type and allow you to collect Mythic-tier guns.
Anyone worrying that a mobile version will offer a diluted experience, need not fret, because Destiny: Rising features a bunch of Destiny activities, including Strikes, six-player activities and missions, as well as a PvP element. You can check out the newest gameplay trailer:
As we approach the launch date, NetEase Games are allowing people to jump in and pre-register their interest. Those who do can unlock special pre-order bonus items for use when the game releases, in the form of randomised draws. You can pre-register on the official site by following this link.
Despite some flagging interest in Bungie’s long-running MMO shooter, NetEase aim to inject some fresh hype into the franchise with Destiny: Rising. The idea of playing a whole new character in a whole new story is appealing, even if we don’t know fully what’s in store yet. I guess we’ll find out when the game launches in August.
Destiny: Rising is developed and published by NetEase Games, and will launch on iOS and Android on August 28 2025.
