Life can be tough, but video games can cheer me right up. Sony’s June State of Play was chock-full of gaming goodness, revealing some potentially amazing games and some surprises at that. But as a team, we here at Loot Level Chill all have varied tastes. You won’t catch Lyle reviewing eFootball, for example, and try as we might, we can’t make Mick like pixel art games like Mina the Hollower.
Kieran is a cozy lover, Chris adores horror and blockbusters, and Steve… I can’t actually nail down his tastes entirely just yet. But he likes driving, action, score attack, and Hitman, so he’s alright really.
But we decided to tell you what we’re most excited for from Sony’s State of Play showcase for June 2026. If you’re yet to catch up we have a full “everything shown” article here for you to get up to speed. We’d also really love you to use our comment section at the bottom of the page to tell us what you loved and why you are excited for it. Let’s get into it, then.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis
Mick Fraser: For me the stand out trailer at the 2026 State of Play was, believe it or not, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. I’m a fan of Lady Lara Croft no matter the format, and the new trailer looks spectacular. Despite the poor showing from the remaster last year, the original 1996 Tomb Raider is one of my all-time favourites which, inevitably, has simply not aged well for three decades (but who has, right?). Getting to replay the classic story, picking up those same beats, but with modern graphics, mechanics, and gameplay? February 2027 can’t come quickly enough.
CONTROL Resonant
Adam Cook: Control, like many of Remedy Entertainment’s games was critically lauded, but just never seemed to get the universal praise it feels like it should. I wanted to pick Rayman, and I wanted to also pick God of War Laufey. But CONTROL Resonant comes off the back of Alan Wake 2 absolutely kicking ass, and I feel like this is as confident a Remedy as we have ever seen. Gone are the days of Alan Wake being a “cult” favourite (irony, I guess), and now we’re into the territory of “this dev doesn’t miss”. I get inFAMOUS vibes from the way Dylan moves and fights, and that’s only gonna be a very good thing for me. The trailer was great, and the longer 2026 has gone the more worried I was getting. Now I know I can play a new Control game this year, in the madness of September.
Rayman Legends Reborn

Steve Chambers: Rayman. An actual Rayman game. In 2026. I’ve been waiting too long for this moment and last night’s State of Play finally delivered on my dream. Sure, it’s not a whole new adventure but hot damn, doesn’t it look pretty. With a shiny new 3D aesthetic slapped onto a stone cold 2D classic, October can’t roll around soon enough.
Until Dawn 2
Kieran Singh: I’ve got a soft spot for teen slasher flicks, and in 2015 Supermassive perfected the video game equivalent with Until Dawn. It was camp and full of horror tropes, and told not one but three surprisingly good interwoven tales all while you dodged beasties and tried to survive the night. It was everything you could have wanted from the genre.
Last night we got our first peek at Until Dawn 2, and I can’t wait to see more. Firesprite are now at the helm, and while the location has shifted from wintery mountains to a sun soaked tropical island, it was undeniably Until Dawn and I look forward to seeing the story it tells and the (likely many) gruesome deaths our heroes can fall foul of.
Bancho the Chef
Lyle Pendle: Most of the games shown in the Sony State of Play were big budget beautiful games, and that’s just not what I’m all about. So for me the unexpected Dave the Diver prequel, Bancho the Chef, stole the show. Traveling around Asia and learning about different cuisines sounds like a dream come true to me, and if I have to do this in video game form then so be it.
Marvel’s Wolverine
Chris White: There’s one game firmly at the top of my most anticipated for 2026, and it isn’t GTA 6. Marvel’s Wolverine has so much potential to be great, and from the new gameplay revealed at State of Play, it looks as though Insomniac is getting everything right. Wolverine is ripping people apart, launching them off buildings then diving claw-first, and being an all-round badass. Jean Grey fighting beside him was also a nice surprise, but the fact she uses her telekinetic abilities in tandem with Logan’s brutal offensive is amazing. Traversal, stealth, QTE cutscenes; this is looking like the complete package.
Not only is it striking visually, it’s also got some cool mechanics such as the healing ability being something you get to control manually. To top it all off, seeing characters like Omega Red, Mystique, and someone who looks identical to Deadpool in the footage, I cannot wait to see the story being cooked up by the developers. I was hyped before, but now, September can’t come fast enough.
And now over to you.

Genuinely surprised Adam’s choice wasn’t God of War.
The whole show was good (even the stuff I have no interest in) but I’m with probably with Mick, Tomb Raider just looks so bloody good and it’s been too long since the last proper game. Just a shame it’s dropped back to next year.
Adam Cook
Genuinely decided to set myself a rule it had to be definitely this year or otherwise I can do most anticipated of 2027. So… control. Also never underestimate how much I adored that first game and love some remedy weirdness!!
