Indie duo Mallorian and FloralNoise have announced a “short-form psychological fishing horror” game coming to PC later this year called HOOKEYE.
I’m guessing the game involves fishing and hooks in eyes, and the key art very much suggests as much, but being a touch soft, I tend to avoid horror games, and leave them for Chris and Lyle.
If you’re braver than me, check out the trailer below:
Set on a damp and foggy dock just off the Californian coast, HOOKEYE, tells a tragic, twisted tale of obsession, loss, sacrifice – and questionable bait.
Players will step into the sodden boots of The Fisherman, who sits alone locked in a desperate battle with the ocean. He has nothing but a couple of beers, his dwindling fishing gear and a burning, all-consuming fixation with his trade.
The beautiful, yet maddening call of the legendary siren rings out from beneath the waves – but if players have any hope of reeling in the prize, they’ll need to sacrifice more than a couple of hooks and experience a surreal and meditative descent through one man’s psyche.
Lovingly rendered with a handcrafted PSX-inspired aesthetic, HOOKEYE invites players to perpetuate the thrilling cycle of risk and reward: bait their hook, cast their line out into the salty sea, then reel in their prize. Each fish they land can be used to bait bigger fish as they work towards the illustrious siren.
As the obsession takes hold, resources dwindle and sanity begins to falter, what will they be willing to risk to keep fishing?
Here’s the key features:
- Choose your execution: All fish serve to get you a bigger fish, you just have to make the right choices.
- Psychological horror: Follow the fisherman as his senses begin to deceive him. Embrace the meditative descent.
- Scrap for resources: You have limited bait and hooks. When things run dry, you’ll have to improvise with what you have.
- A relentless story: Dive into the past; these damned talking fish have already done it for you.
- Reel in the siren: The siren is out there. It calls to you, and you’re here to take a hold of it.
HOOKEYE is coming to PC via Steam in 2026.
