Pokemon Champions announced

There’s one day each year that all of us fans of Pikachu and the gang can look forward to, and that’s Pokémon day. This celebration of everything Pocket Monsters always brings with it some exciting news, and this year was no different. As well as a shiny new Pokémon Legends Z-A trailer, we also had a totally new game announced. Pokémon Champions is a game all about the battling side of the long running series, that will be coming to Nintendo Switch and mobile devices when it releases.

In a short trailer we got to see the history of battling in the series, complete with adorable kids connecting their Game Boys with link cables. Eventually we reached the modern day after seeing a selection of nostalgic entries in the series, and got to witness a double battle between various Pokémon (including my main man Dondozo) being played on a phone. On the official website of Pokémon Champions we can see a little extra information too.

“Get ready to experience everything you love about Pokémon battles all in one place—in Pokémon Champions. This new, battle-focused game will feature familiar mechanics such as Pokémon types, Abilities, and moves, creating an environment conducive to rich and varied strategies for new and experienced Trainers alike.

It’s not just familiar mechanics—you’ll be able to bring in classic Pokémon from Pokémon HOME, too! Look forward to cross-platform battles alongside your favorite Pokémon on Nintendo Switch and mobile, with a variety of different modes available for your desired experience.”

After spending countless hours watching various YouTubers battle teams of Pokémon, it feels like it could be time for me to get into this scene with Pokémon Champions. It’ll be interesting to see the full scope of this new game too, as only a double battle was shown and nothing more. Hopefully more news on Pokémon Champions is given to us soon, because I’m ready to be the very best.
