Team17 Digital has announced the Lichthund-developed band management, story-driven RPG: Rockbeasts.
“It’s been a long time coming, but we can finally show off Rockbeasts to the world. Since its initial conception, we knew this game would be different—our take on role-playing management gameplay with a dramedy twist and amazing music. We’ve put our hearts into every detail, and we can’t wait for players to jump in and create their own unforgettable stories. It’s time to party like it’s 1993.” – Rafal & Bartek, Lichthund.
It’s described by the team as a dark comedy, and it’s fully voiced. The story has been penned by Jakub Szamałek (senior writer of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and principal writer of Cyberpunk 2077, and also upcoming title The Blood of Dawnwalker), and it will feature Iggy Pop. No, seriously.
There are branching narratives, vocal performances (though not from Iggy Pop, we assume), and more. There are “over 100 characters” and “90 locations” you can enjoy, and 17 tracks for you to play at gigs. It all sounds pretty great.
Tune up your guitar, check your mic levels and get ready to play the most underground dive bars in this totally radical tour-de-force through 1993. You take the role of a notorious band manager, taking on the task of raising a struggling rock band from their beginnings, trading couch-surfing for crowd-surfing. Will you stay true to your art? Or will you sellout for fortune and fame? The choices you make as a manager will have profound and lasting impacts on your members.
Pick the venue, prep the set and make sure it all goes according to plan. Pull it off and the band might just finally take those first steps to fame and glory. Sure, this one was in a grimy basement, but even the rock legends had to start somewhere, right?
Experience the characters that bring this world to life, struggling with their own personal demons. Will you be the manager who helps those around you, or uses others as the stepping stone to success?
Rockbeasts is coming to Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series S|X, PS5, and PC via Steam in 2025.
