Sega has announced that Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series S|X, along with cross-play and rollback support.
The announcement was part of the Virtua Fighter Direct 2025, which you can check out in full below. The show includes this news, but also some bits about the NEW Virtua Fighter Project, coming from Yakuza/Like a Dragon studio, RGG Studios.
Sega said: “Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O gives players the definitive fighting experience in their quest to become the world’s best fighter, including the game’s first balance adjustments in 13 years along with rollback netcode support, allowing players to enjoy smoother, more heated online battles with other challengers on different platforms around the world. Furthermore, multiple additional content updates are currently in the works, with details to be announced at a later date.”
Timed to coincide with EVO Japan, Sega also confirmed that Wolf Hawkfield with be returning for the new game.
In the meantime, players can get into all the fighting action via the VIRTUA FIGHTER Open Championship, kicking off with the first preliminary round May 23 at Combo Breaker 2025. Additional preliminary rounds will be held at a later date for Europe and Asia, with a Japan-specific round also planned. Players who win their regional preliminary rounds will have the opportunity to participate in the Grand Final Tournament where the overall winner will receive a grand prize of $100,000. Further details on the preliminary rounds in each region and the participation rules can be found on the Virtua Fighter portal site.
