SEGA and LEGO reveals LEGO SEGA Genesis

To be this good it takes building blocks.
LEGO SEGA Genesis

As if our wallets weren’t aching enough these days, LEGO won’t let up and has announced a LEGO SEGA Genesis (or Mega Drive if you’re from the UK).

However, unlike some of the other recently released LEGO gaming products (Pokemon, I’m looking at you), the LEGO SEGA Genesis (Mega Drive!!) is a wallet-friendly price of £34.99. In other regions, that’s €39.99 and $39.99. It’s going to be released on June 1st this year, and you can get your order in already on the LEGO website, or at your nearest LEGO store.

Here’s the specs, including the amount of pieces (which also gives us an idea of why it’s a bit more budget friendly):

  • Ages: 12+
  • Pieces: 479
  • Measurements: The set measures over 1.5 in. (4 cm) high, 6 in (16 cm) wide and 4.5 in (12 cm) deep, while the controllers measure over 1 in. (2 cm) high, 3 in (8 cm) wide and 9.5 in. (24 cm) deep
  • What’s included: The building kit includes 2 detachable controllers, a game card that can be taken out of the console, plus sticker decorations
  • Price: £34.99/ €39.99 / $39.99

“Like many others from my generation, I still vividly remember when the SEGA Mega Drive launched – it felt completely out of this world,” said Patrik, Designer at the LEGO Group. “27 years later the love for the console is still going strong – I still play mine! Recreating the intricate details and curves of the console with LEGO elements was an enjoyable challenge, despite it’s difficulty.”

“We feel that this is a building experience that captures both SEGA’s heritage of gaming and the playful creativity of LEGO play,” said Alex Gomez, VP, Licensing & Partnerships of SEGA of America, Inc. “The SEGA Genesis holds a special place in the hearts of gamers and represents a defining era in video game history. With this new LEGO set, fans are not only able to relive those nostalgic memories, but also actively engage with SEGA’s legacy through hands-on creativity.”

It’s got a funky little surprise inside the build as well, which you can see below:

SEGA says: “This latest collaboration builds upon the successful partnership between SEGA and the LEGO Group, continuing to expand the shared vision of delivering memorable experiences for fans worldwide. Prior collaborations include successful LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog Product Range and LEGO Ideas Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone sets.”

The LEGO SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive will be released on June 1st, 2026.
