While the finer details pertaining to FC 26 remain under wraps for a while longer, EA Sports has revealed the cover star for the Ultimate Edition of the game: Zlatan Ibrahimović.
“You asked, Zlatan is back”, says EA, in a post on X. The full reveal is scheduled for July 16th (tomorrow), with a “reveal trailer” that’ll show off the game due at 5pm UK time, or just before: specifically it’s airing at 4:57pm.
While it’s not currently live, the trailer will be viewable below at that time, and you can click the “notify me” button if you are worried you’ll forget.
The cover appears to be the one for the Ultimate Edition, and there are plenty of nods to a retro-inspired feel for FC 26. Obviously there’s both a book and poster of R9 Ronaldo, but the image revealed is rather full of Easter eggs. There are references to plenty of Zlatan’s clubs like PSG, LA Galaxy, Malmo, and more.
The cover itself is an updated version of an old photograph of Zlatan, with floppy discs, . Behind him there’s a CRT-style PC monitor that shows the FC 26 menu screen, which features Alex Morgan, the former Orlando Pride and USA star.
Last year’s cover star was Jude Bellingham, and he and his brother Jobe are both featured heavily in the current marketing campaign for the game on UK TV.
There’s no date yet for the release of the game, but it’ll likely be late September, and fingers crossed the Switch 2 version will be an interesting one to look at when the time comes. Otherwise, it’ll be launching on Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and presumably Nintendo Switch as well.
Until then, we can all sit and wait, and think about what we’d love to see added to our favourite modes (career mode, for example, for me), or whether EA will make the evolution system for FC… well, evolve for FC 26. Not long to wait now!
