Keys are critical in Blue Prince as they can open locked doors and more besides. Without keys, you will find that expanding your mansion enough to succeed in your task will be impossible. Therefore keeping an eye on your Keys and ensuring you have enough is very important. Here at Loot Level Chill, we’ve spent hours poring over Blue Prince, and have a comprehensive guide to help you get more Keys, to ensure you have the most options whilst playing.
SPOILER WARNING
As with most things in Blue Prince, part of the fun is self-discovery, and below this spoiler warning we will be revealing plenty of secrets of the game. We encourage you to try and find out the solutions to puzzles on your own to get the full experience of Blue Prince. Only read on if you do not mind some of those secrets being spoiled.
What are Keys?
Perhaps unsurprisingly, keys help you unlock things, mostly doors, in Blue Prince. As you proceed to draft more and more rooms and progress steadily north towards the Antechamber, you are more likely to come across locked doors. You must unlock these doors before you can draft the room beyond, so without keys you could find your progress blocked short. Keys can also be used to unlock trunks, which can provide plenty of other useful items as well as (sometimes) more keys to help on your travels. As such, having a steady supply of keys is something to ensure each day.
How to get more Keys in Blue Prince
Thankfully there are a few ways to collect Keys in the game, which we will list here. Using these tricks, you shouldn’t find yourself short of a Key or two.
Certain rooms give you Keys
Some rooms that you draft will always have a Key inside. Rooms such as the Nook or Storeroom will always contain a Key, and so are worth drafting to keep you stocked up. The Music Room will also always give you a basic key alongside a Special Key. The Garage can only be accessed on the West Wing, but if you can draft it, you will always get 3 Keys there.
Also, rooms containing items such as Closet, Walk-In Closet, and Attic are also likely to contain a key so are options to consider to bolster your key count. Also if you acquire enough Stars in the Observatory you will unlock additional keys for the constellations appearing in the sky, so this can be well worth the 1 Gem investment to get the Observatory in the first place.
Metal Detector
If you can acquire a Metal Detector, they increase the chances of finding a Key (or Coins) in rooms you draft. What’s more, they also beep to highlight that some unclaimed keys or coins are still around, helping you find them hidden on the floor (or anywhere else they may be hiding).
Purchase Keys
You can sometimes purchase Keys at the Commissary so it is worth checking their each day to see if you can purchase some more if needed.
Also, the Locksmith specialises in Keys and will always sell you keys for some coins.
Billiard Room Puzzle
If you can solve the dartboard puzzle in the Billiard Room, you will always be rewarded with a key-related prize, so it’s well worth trying to solve it. For all the tips and tricks to solve the Billiard Room puzzle, check out our guide here.
Special Keys
You can also acquire Special Keys as you explore the mansion and expand. Sometimes these keys can work like a spare regular key. The Silver Key for example is the same as a regular Key, but the resulting room you draft is more likely to have many doors. The Prism Key can also be used to draft a room of the same colour you are currently in (it doesn’t work in Blue Rooms).
The Locker Room
The Locker Room is a rare room that will spread keys around your mansion once it’s drafted. You will however need to the draft The Pool first to add it to your draft pool in the first place. Once done though, you can go and find the keys in existing rooms, or collect them directly from the Conference Room if you have one.
Lockpick and Keycard
Whilst not technically a tactic to get more keys, both the Lockpick and Keycard present you with opportunities to not get locked out of progress. The Lockpick gives you the chance to bypass a locked door without spending a Key, and is always worth trying irrespective of how many keys you have.
The Keycard allows you to bypass security keycard doors. You won’t be able to get through these without a Keycard (in most cases) even if you have regular keys.
So now you know the many ways you can acquire additional Keys in Blue Prince.
