Over the last few years Super Rare Originals have published some of my favourite indies. Look through their catalogue and you’ll see an array of eclectic and endearing titles, from the silly first person platformer Completely Stretchy to the atmospheric and fast paced OTXO. They’ve quickly become a publisher to watch for me, and they’ve just announced Moros Protocol which looks just as exciting as their other titles.
This sci-fi FPS is inspired by the classics (with the Moros in its title literally translating to Doom) while also featuring that endlessly replayable Roguelike charm. With a wide selection of guns to use and tons of power ups that suit them, no two runs of Moros Protocol will feel the same.
For those who get nervous when they see words like Roguelike thrown around, don’t worry. Moros Protocol will allow you to grow stronger between runs with an upgrade system, meaning that death will never feel too punishing and hopefully appealing to more FPS fans because of this.
Super Rare Originals and developer Pixel Reign present you with a fight for your life in Moros Protocol, a sci-fi FPS roguelite that tasks you with not just survival – but to face a world full of darkness and monsters.
Load up alone or with a friend for two player co-operative gameplay in this stylized pixel-painted love letter to the classic shooters of yesteryear, which is set to launch on PC via Steam in 2025.
Take on the role of Alex, who awakes on-board a Capital Battleship on the way to war – only to find that much of the crew is dead, and the ship is infested with monsters. Joined by an AI companion and his dim-witted robot assistant Ody-6, Alex sets off on a journey where every fight is a desperate battle against the unknown – and doom itself. The ship is a war zone. You may be outnumbered, but you are not outmatched.
Moros Protocol is a relentless, fast-paced shooter where survival means adapting – or being consumed. To thrive against the monstrous hordes, players will need to dynamically adapt their loadout and strategy with each run.
I can’t wait to jump into Moros Protocol when it releases later this year, and hopefully we’ll get to see more than a short trailer sooner rather than later.
