It is apparently not enough that Nintendo is planning a Nintendo Direct for Switch 2 in April, but we’ve got a specific showcase just for the original Switch happening. While the company has been very clear about there being nothing on Switch 2 at the March 2025 Nintendo Direct, there’s still plenty to get your teeth into.
There are a few games that could still make it to Switch that were on Wii U (especially now Xenoblade Chronicles X has made the jump, too), such as Yoshi’s Woolly World. And of course, fans are still hoping for a Switch version of Super Mario Galaxy 2, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, and maybe even Metroid Pride 2 and 3. Speaking of, will we get to see some more of Metroid Prime 4, which is rumoured for Switch 2, but almost certainly still coming to Switch as well.
The show has finished, so let’s get started, here’s what was announced at the Nintendo Direct March 2025. But first up, if you just want to watch it in full, then the first video up, is that entire showcase.
Nintendo Direct March 2025: Dragon Quest I-II HD-2D Remake
First up for the thirty minutes of Nintendo Direct goodness was a bit of a banger: Dragon Quest got a showing, with the 2D-HD remakes of the first two games, following on from the third game last year. Yes it’s a bit confusing, but it makes sense. It’s coming in 2025, and looks lovely.
Then we got a quick reminder of the April 2nd reveal for the Switch 2 Direct.
The next trailer was for No Sleep for Kaname Date – From AI: The Somnium Files. It’s coming on July 25th, 2025.
RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of The Soulless Army is a remaster from Atlus, and is set for a July 19th release, and pre-orders are open now.
Next was Shadow Labyrinth, from Bandai Namco: a 2D side-scrolling action title. There’s a distinct Pac-Man feel to this one, with your guide “Puck” clearly doing Pac-Man things. Shadow Labyrinth is coming on July 18th, 2025.
Patapon is coming to Switch, with remasters of the first two games, also from Bandai Namco, in the form of Patapon 1+2 Replay on July 11th, 2025.
It was time for some cozy-game fun next, with Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar, a redux of the original DS title, coming on August 27th, 2025. Pre-orders are available from March 27th.
Nintendo Direct March 2025: Metroid Prime 4
Moving on, then, the next Nintendo Direct March 2025 title is: Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, which was a lovely one to see in action. It looks like all the series staples are back, with scanning and destructible environments, and some psychic abilities which allow Samus to operate mechanisms and open doors. The biggest news, however, is that this means it’s definitely still coming to Nintendo Switch, and in fact we had a reconfirmation it’s “Coming 2025”.
Disney Villains Cursed Cafe was the next title shown, offering the chance to run a cafe full of Disney characters like Gaston, and it’s out today.
Witchbrook from Chucklefish is up next, then. This one sees you going from a witch-in-training to an expert spellcaster. It looks like a witch-life-sim, and has a lovely art-style. Witchbrook is coming in Winter 2025.
“Action, adventure, and arcade” was the next headline, with a quick look at the likes of The Eternal Life of Goldman (later this year in Winter), and Gradius Origins (a collection of the original titles, coming August 7th). Rift of the Necrodancer got a showing, too. A superb rhythm game with a lovely story, and it also has a Celeste DLC pack. This one is hitting Switch today.
Moving on, Tamagotchi Plaza was shown, launching June 27th.
Of course Pokemon got a quick look, with Pokemon Legends: Z-A getting shown, not too long after the Pokemon presents special showcase. It seems wild zones from Arceus will now be available in the cities themselves, which is nice. The gameplay looks familiar to fans of Arceus (like me), too, which is nice. It seems that when night falls, a Z-A Royal will start, allowing you to fight other trainers in “battle zones”, who will challenge you when spotted: you’ll rank up from Z-A, of course. You can see their rating before engaging, which is nice. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is coming to Switch in “Late 2025”.
“The game you’re about to see doesn’t have a big, epic story”, starts the next trailer. And oh my, will this one make a lot of people happy. Rhythmn Paradise Groove is coming to Switch in… 2026.
Next up, Nintendo addressed some news about the use of digital games. A Virtual Game Card was announced, meaning you can purchase a game digitally and it’s loaded as a “digital game card”, allowing you to load them on different consoles. One you’ve “ejected” a digital game virtual console, you can load it on a different console. You can essentially split your library between two consoles, with “local communication” required between the two consoles for the first time. You can even “lend out” virtual game cards to family members. You can lend “one game at a time” for “two weeks”, whereby they automatically return to you. This feature is coming via a ssystem update in April.
High On Life is coming on 6th May, while Star Overdrive is planned for April 10th. The Wandering Village is coming on July 17th, and King of Meat is coming in 2025. Lou’s Lagoon is hitting this year, too, as is Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time (May 21st).
Saga Frontier 2 Remastered was next to be announced, and it’s coming to Switch today.
Monument Valley got a showing along with Monument Valley 2, with both games coming on April 15th, complete will DLC and updates. Pre-orders start for this today. Monument Valley 3 is coming this Summer as well.
Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots was next up, and a new game in that series is always welcome. This one is coming in 2025.
Nearly at the end of the Nintendo Direct now, and Marvel is up. Marvel Cosmic Invasion from dotemu, and is a two player side-scrolling beat-em-up coming to Switch in Winter 2025.
The last announcement for the show was…. Tomodachii Life: Living the Dream. The final announcement wasn’t for 2025, as this game is coming in 2026. It’s the first new entry in the series in over 10 years, so fans will be very excited for this one.
Miyamoto popped up before the show finished, to talk about the Nintendo Direct idea itself. Miyamoto thanked people for watching them so far, and said it’s launching a new channel based on the “concept of delivering to you directly”. It’s a smart app called “Nintendo today”, and will act like a daily calendar, offering news for fans on a daily basis.
And that’s it, that’s the entirety of the Nintendo Direct March 2025 showcase. Over to you, Switch 2, which will be shown on the Nintendo Today! app as well. That app is out today, so go grab it.
