Monster Hunter Wilds Yian Kut-Ku | How to beat

General Info

Name: Yian Kut-Ku
Monster Type: Bird Wyvern
Known Habitats: Forest, Cliffs
Characteristics:
Bird wyverns with impressive beaks and large ears. They tend to be skittish but will sometimes inititate attacks on a perceived threat. Yian Kut-Ku arrive in large groups during the season of Plenty in the Scarlet Forest. The absence of eggs or young suggests that the purpose of this is not to breed, but rather to seek out mates and nourishment.
Special Attack: Minor Wind Pressure, Fireblight.

Strategy

Weak Point: Mouth
Breakables: Head
Tail Sever: No
Helpful Hints:
At this point in your adventure, the Yian Kut-Ku may seem deceptively small and weak compared to your previous hunts. And whilst that is technically the case, this isn’t the time for overconfidence. The Yian Kut-Ku can swing around on a sixpence, knocking any close-range hunters flying, and for decent damage too. It can charge at you with its head buried in the ground, or aggressively spouting fireballs about the place. If you find yourself with more than one to deal with, make liberal use of Dung Pods to isolate your quarry. The key is to look for openings to do damage consistently, such as when its focus is on another hunter, or if it has fallen over after a charge. The initial part of the fight is the hardest whilst you get your bearings and understand the attack patterns. After that, the health pool of the Yian Kut-Ku is relatively small, and with wounding and head breaking opportunities, you’ll find you should fell this fire-breathing chicken before long.

Weaknesses

Weapons: Piercing and Slash weapons are strongest here, particularly on the Wings and Torso.
Effects: Dragonblight is nullified. Thunderblight and Iceblight are options, with the latter being very effective on the Neck.
Elements: Water, Ice, or Thunder-element weapons are the most effective.
Status Effects: All status effects are possible and quite effective.
Items: Pods, Bombs, and Traps all work.
