Revenge of the Savage Planet is a sequel bursting with things to do, secrets to uncover, and stuff to collect. One of the more enjoyable pursuits is capturing and researching all 36 species of alien life across its four core worlds. Some are super easy, but some are a little trickier – but you need them all if you want to unlock every upgrade and cosmetic option. Handily, we’ve got them all, so we’ve broken them down into a handy set of guides to help you find and nab them.
This is part two: how to capture every creature on the desert world of Xephyr in Revenge of the Savage Planet.
While most of these creatures can be captured easily enough, you’ll want to scan them all first. If they’re aggressive, scanning them will expose their weak spot, allowing you to stun them. To capture a creature, you need to lasso it with the Proton Whip and pull it towards you, so the closer you can get the better.
BEETLE & FECAL BEETLE: These two are also found on Stellaris Prime, and if you’ve captured them there, they’re exactly the same here.
PUFFER FOX: Xephyr’s answer to the Raccocco, the Puffer Fox is a pretty easy target. Isolate one and lasso it to add it to your menagerie.
SCORPIO PUFFER: Also referred to in-game as an Electro Scorpion, this cute little bugger is also pretty dangerous. It will shock you when it attacks you, and when agitated or killed will generate a dome of electricity that does damage and prevents you from using your tools for a few seconds. They don’t need stunning, but they will defend one another if you try to capture one that’s in company.
VAPERON: These teleporting praying mantis aliens have a tell-tale call, and will attack you on sight and from range. They will appear and disappear in a blink, hurling projectiles at you from a distance. To capture one you’ll first need to stun it, so scan and find its weak spot, which is weirdly its left knee (I don’t know why either). Shoot it twice and then trap it when staggered.
BONEFLY: Like the Slitherfly, the Bonefly will need to be staggered with a jet of water. These are trickier than Slitherflies though, as Boneflies do more damage and attack in greater numbers. FOr best results, isolate one and then stun it.
ALPHA VAPERON: Larger than standard Vaperon and bright pink, these gangly mantises have an extra attack where they spin towards you like a mini tornado and do quite heavy damage. When they come out of the spin they’ll be dizzy, so take advantage of that to shoot their leg and stun them.
CURADOR: This cute little butterfly is actually a pain in the arse, as it heals and shields other enemies nearby. You’ll need to dispose of them and then stun the Curador with a jet of water.
GRAB GRUB: A huge blue slug, this irritating monster will catch you with its long tongue and drag you into its mouth unless you shoot it in its open jaws to stun it. It’s the only species with an extra mechanic to capture it, as it will burrow when you lasso it. When it does you need to stop pulling it in until it pops back up again or you’ll lose it.
DESERT ERAFFE: Like a giraffe but weirder, these grazing animals need to be shot in the back of the head. It’s quite a tricky shot as the target is high up and small, and the Eraffe will bolt the first time you hit it. Two shots should do it though.
