Blue Prince | What to do in the Utility Closet

The Breaker Box in the Utility Closet has many uses to use to your advantage.
Blue Prince Utility Closet

The Utility Closet is a room in Blue Prince that allows you to interact with the Breaker Box. Inside you have plenty of options you can fiddle around with, but it’s not always clear what to do with each part, or how best to use them to your advantage. Here at Loot Level Chill, we’ve spent hours poring over Blue Prince, and have a comprehensive guide to help you understand what you can control in the Utility Closet to make it a great choice to help you progress.

SPOILER WARNING

As with most things in Blue Prince, part of the fun is self-discovery, and below this spoiler warning we will be revealing plenty of secrets of the game. We encourage you to try and find out the solutions to puzzles on your own to get the full experience of Blue Prince. Only read on if you do not mind some of those secrets being spoiled.

What is the Utility Closet?

The Utility Closet is a blue room in Blue Prince that is a dead end. Whilst on its surface it may not seem like a useful room to draft, it can actually have a really positive impact on your run, as well as help solve some of the game’s earlier puzzles. It helps direct power to various rooms and allows you to manipulate certain situations in your favour. We’ll go through each one, in turn, to help you maximise your options.

Keycard Entry System

Your first option in the Utility Closet Breaker Box is to turn the Keycard Entry system power on or off. This controls whether there is any power going to Keycard-locked doors in the mansion. You only want to touch this if you have drafted a Security Room, as from the Terminal there you can manipulate what happens to Keycard Doors without power. By default, they are locked, but you can turn them to unlocked. Meaning if you change the power here to off, all Keycard doors would become unlocked, which is very helpful. But just make sure you have the settings in the Security room set up or head back there right away.

VAC Indicators

The VAC Indicators system is there to facilitate the Gemstone Cavern Permanent Addition. To understand what you need to do with the VAC lights, check out our complete guide here for every step.

Fuse Switches

There are four fuse switches here, although the last one for the Cabinet is out of action. The other three are for the Gymnasium, Dark Room, and Garage.

You will need to flip the Garage fuse switch to On as part of the West Gate Path Permanent Addition, and you can read the full guide to that here.

For the Gymnasium, you should always switch this to Off, as it negates the negative effect of losing 2 Steps every time you enter that room, so you can draft it moving forward that day with no consequence.

As for the Darkroom, after you’ve tripped the fuse by entering it for the first time, you can return here to turn it back on. Now the lights in the Darkroom will stay on. You need to do this as part of the Apple Orchard Permanent Addition, and you can read the full guide on that here.

So now you know what every switch does in the Utility Room in Blue Prince, and how to make the most out of the room.
